Problems fixed: 14-jan-2011: - Spent some time between Christmas and New Year's almost finishing this up. Still need to level inserts. - Glued and added back last missing plastic. - Cleaned upper playfield. Did you know the metal ball guide is one piece? Too lazy to remove it (it's a lot of work) but I cleaned most everywhere else. - Chris pointed out the lower flippers weren't gapped quite right, sapping a bit of power. He fixed it. 28-dec-2010: - Cleaned upper playfield, right side. Game has all new rubber now. - Re-installed all plastics except one (it needs glue). - Replaced stop screw in drawbridge with correct 1" screw as per manual (had used 3/4"). Upper ramp shot is now MUCH easier than when I got the game. - Trough baffle replaced. Original had a crack. 26-dec-2010: - New ramp. At Chris' suggestion, countersunk the ramp screws. Had to drill out the holes for the wireform, since the repro ramp had holes that were about 1/64" too small. - New rubber on most of the upper playfield. - Cleaned left side of upper playfield. - Flattened some plastics. - Discovered tilt wasn't working. Tightened hex screw holding plumb bob tilt's upper wire, but it was stripped. Added a toothpick and some glue, and it's working now. (At this point, the game was really good, but is a bit frustrating with the lifted inserts messing up flow on the upper playfield.) 24-dec-2010: - This is actually a few days work. - Chris welded new mounts on the broken wireform. Fits great. Now the ball drains from the upper playfield correctly. Copied the missing pieces from Mark Birching's, who was kind enough to lend a spare. Also replaced a broken post screw on the right slingshot. - Replaced upper playfield kickstand with one from Chris, made from parts made by copying Mark Birching's. - Adjusted stop screws on Drawbridge. Now I can make the drawbridge shot. Much more fun. - Started cleaning upper playfield. - Bad switch (upper) in the ball lock. Actually, this was pretty weird. Game would start multiball, but would NOT light JACKPOT, and would revert to non-multiball music when any ball hit the trough. I suspected the trough, but it turns out the problem was actually the upper ball lock switch. It registered sometimes, but would not trigger when the third ball was in the trough. I didn't have a proper replacement, because the position of the lugs on these switches has changed, but I did have an old used switch that, when mounted at the right angle, works consistently. Now, multiball works! This was VERY confusing and frustrating. - Also cleaned the ball lock coil, which stuck a few times. - Plunger switch is now good. - Kickback lane screw was cracked off. Hole is a crater now, covered with a washer; screw is now #6 with a t-nut under the playfield. This won't fit through the stock metal sleeve, so I cut off a piece of 3/16 aluminum tubing stock (what the hardware store had) that was the same length as the tube. Works pretty well. (At this point, the game was pretty good.) 8-dec-2010: - Long time, no work. - Chris fixed the shooter lane by routing out a square bit and stealing a piece from a Millionaire playfield. The shooter lanes are not the same! - While we had the lower playfield out, we stripped (almost all) of it and cleaned it. - Grease removed from ball popper, right slingshot, left slingshot, ball eject. Bunch of savages in this town. - Many bad screws, posts, etc., fixed, because Chris can't leave broken stuff alone. - A few weeks ago, I fixed the coin door. The right reject housing, behind the entry plate, is still damaged, but it now accepts quarters. Yeah, that's right, it accepts quarters for a game that has been on free play for over a decade. - While playfields out, I vaccumed the cabinet. It's much better, although not perfect. - Upper trim is not the standard trim for other games; can't replace it with one I bought a few months back. - Checked fuses. Two 1/8A fuses were too big. One 20A fuse removed. 19 May 2010 - Restored rubber on multiball lane. - Checked trough switches. Can't find problem yet. 16 May 2010 - Replaced both drop target banks. 4 targets were cracked at the base; replaced. One re-used target had its sticker replaced; the other one was pretty good so I left it. I have 4 more e-clips than the manual says I should and I don't know where to put them. - Installed new backglass--no fade. Chris found that Steve Ritchie was selling one at Pin-A-Go-Go. Seems to be slightly larger. Needs to be tweaked, but I'm not quite sure how. 12 May 2010 - Replaced left slingshot plastic. Two posts ruined by severing off in the tee nuts. - Waiting on new drop targets. 11 May 2010 - Disassembled both drop target banks and cleaned the parts. 4/6 drop targets have cracks in the plastics. - Replaced post guarding ramp entrance. - Cleaned under ball arch (first time). Inspected shooter lane damage. 10 May 2010 - Replaced 2 (U-Turn) rollover switches so the U-Turn feature works reliably. The game now reports no malfunctioning switches at power-on. - The underside of the "R" switch is in the ball path -- caused a ball hangup. Bent it out of the way. - Re-soldered 100,000 lightning bolt lamp. Re-seated RANSOM bolt lamp. Lightning wheel now works consistently. 9 May 2010: - Rebuilt upper flipper. Can't convert upper flipper to Fliptronics spring arrangement due to clearance of the ball in the shooter lane. Learned that one the hard way. (This means it's now possible to make the ramp with something less than a miracle shot.) - Adjusted W-A-R switches. W was not sensitive enough; R somehow was mashed on due to a short. - Adjusted middle lock switch (was not sensing second ball.) (At this point, the game was actually fun, but more refurbishing is obviously required.) 8 May 2010: - Removed upper flipper to start rebuilding it. - Re-soldered GI for WAR lane dividers. 6 May 2010: - Fixed R7 on interconnect board, restoring the last flasher. - Interconnect board had corrosion in the vicinity of the bottom-right two connectors including one obliterated trace (likely not used, as it powered the cabinet's +28V). I restored the trace and cleaned the corrosion. - Something sliced one of the switch wires coming off the interconnect board. I ran into it when re-assembling. Fixed. 5 May 2010: - Display fixed! - Re-fixed the plunger. - Fixed the "JACKPOT" lamp board -- cracked solder joint on diode. - New pop bumper caps. Just because they're pretty. - All flashers working except 7C. (At this point, the game was kinda fun, but it was mostly impossible to make ramp shots, which is really quite annoying.) 4 May 2010: - Shooter is back up to spec, but playfield damage makes it hard to properly plunge a ball. - Started installing new display. 2 May 2010: - Replaced wire between Drawbridge targets and wiring harness. Several wires here have poor repair but are working. - Adjusted Loop roll-unders. Can now make Loop shot. 1-May-2010: - Playfield tilt switch restored, thanks to Chris, who figured out what was missing and gave me the part. 29-Apr-2010: - Lower flippers rebuilt. KNIGHT lamps working; sockets may be marginal. (At this point, the game hinted at fun, but wasn't really fun, because all the good shots don't work.) 28-apr-2010: - New balls. - Battery holder corroded. Did some light cleanup (could have replaced 20 components and two PIAs but chose not to) and installed a remote-mounted battery holder. This was hard because apparently I suck at Molex connectors. 27-apr-2010: - Backbox GI dead. Jumper W2 was toasty black on relay board. Replaced W2 and re-flowed solder pads. Lights work. - Plunger damaged by play without a rubber tip. Removed it and grinded it down to a usable shape, but a rust spot means it is an imperfect plunger at best. 25-apr-2010: - Head lock missing. Chris fixed this before we carted the game home. Remaining problems: - Lifting inserts - Many cracked plastics - Many cracked posts - Moderately bad missing paint (Near WIN lanes/ball drop area) - Playfield is rough in general - Cabinet needs some glue and filler - Cabinet is faded - "W" (in WIN) switch suspect? - check flipper gap on upper flipper
